London City Airport appoints non-executive chairman

Tuesday, 16 January 20073 min read

Roy Griffins has become non-executive chairman of London City Airport

For the last two years, Griffins was director general of the airport’s Council International in Brussels and before that he was director general of Civil Aviation in the UK Department of Transport.

He has been appointed by the airport’s new owners, AIG and Corp, to work with the existing management team to drive the development plans forward.

“2006 was an excellent year for the airport, the route network grew from 26 destinations to 31, and has already increased further this year with the launch of services to Rome. Plus, we reached the 2 million-passenger milestone in a calendar year for the first time,” said Griffins.

“Looking ahead I’m confident that 2007 will prove to be equally successful. In order to grow and maximise the potential of the airport, our immediate plan will be to increase capacity.”
