Luftansa jet in near miss with drone above LA

Authorities in Los Angeles say a drone came within just 200 feet of a commercial jet as it came in to land at LAX.
The pilot of the Lufthansa A380 jet reported the near miss at an altitude of 5000 feet above a heavily populated area of LA, around 14 miles from the airport.
"This is one more incident that could have brought down an airliner, and it’s completely unacceptable. A near-miss of 200 feet should serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless drone use," senator Dianne Feinstein said in a statement.
Local Democrat Feinstein introduced legislation last year asking the FAA to enact rules determining how high drones are permitted to fly.
Current Federal regulations permit drone aircraft from flying no higher than 400 feet or within 5 miles of an airport.
Los Angeles has recorded more than 40 drone sightings within the last two years and there were about 200 throughout California according to analysis by the LA Times.
