Luxury Travel Magazine Gold List Awards 2006
The winners of Luxury Travel Magazine’s Gold List 2006, were announced yesterday at an event held in Sydney.
Following the enormous success of last year’s awards, the Gold List 2006 was even bigger in scope.
Park Hyatt Sydney retains its position as Australia’s pre-eminent hotel, despite fierce competition from the Gold Coast’s Palazzo Versace while The Peninsula Hong Kong was voted Best Overseas Hotel.
Proving Bali still holds a place in Australian hearts despite current problems, Four Season Jimbaran Bay, Bali was voted Best Overseas Resort with Banyan Tree Phuket, Thailand coming second. The award for Best Australian Resort went to Hayman.
Luxury travellers voted Singapore Airlines’ First Class the best, and Qantas took top spot for its Business Class.
Elysia Golden Door in the Hunter Valley was voted Australia’s Best Spa, and Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas our Best Golf Resort.
Paris wooed respondents as Best Overseas City, but when it came to choosing the world’s best country we couldn’t get beyond our own shores, with Australia taking top spot.
The awards are the result of a survey in which tens of thousands of Luxury Travel Magazine’s subscribers and readers were asked to nominate the World’s Best Hotels, Resorts, Spas, Cruise Lines, Golf Courses, Airlines and Destinations – a total of 22 categories in all.
This year the magazine joined forces with Virtuoso – the most exclusive collection of luxury travel agents in Australia and New Zealand – whose clients also voted in the survey, making this one of the most comprehensive luxury travel surveys ever conducted by an Australia travel magazine.
“Our survey show that Australian’s really are among the world’s great travellers, but also that we love our own country with a passion,” said Hilary Doling, Editor in Chief of Luxury Travel Magazine. The full list of results is published in the Summer edition of Luxury Travel Magazine, which goes on sale this week.
