Macau shuts leisure venues after first Covid cases for months

Macau ordered the closure of some entertainment and leisure facilities after it reported its first cluster of local cases In more than a year.
Gyms, cinemas and bars have closed but casinos can stay open for now.
A government statement said other establishments such as theatres, spas and indoor playgrounds were also forced to shut down.
Macau chief executive Ho Iat-seng said there are no plans to close its key gambling industry but that could change if any clusters happen at casinos.
Macau’s economy relies heavily on gambling tourism, particularly from mainland China.
Only four positive cases have been confirmed so far but there are fears it will grow as they are of the more infectious delta variant.
Macau has not recorded any deaths since the start of the pandemic and only 63 confirmed cases.
