Partnership signed with largest Brazilian real estate company

Marriott has been riding the express train on international expansion this year, and the hotel company shows no signs of stopping. Writes by Melanie Nayer

Marriott International signed a partnership agreement with Brazil’s largest real estate company to build 50 green Fairfield Inn hotels throughout Brazil, the first one to be open in late 2011.

The Fairfield Inn hotels in this partnership will be constructed with environmentally friendly design for greater energy efficiency. Additionally, Marriott and PDG Realty have agreed to make financial contributions for each hotel constructed to support Amazon rain forest preservation through the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS).

"Introducing the Fairfield brand in Brazil couples our focus on expanding into new markets with a wider range of development opportunities for hotel investors, as well as our goal of building environmentally friendly hotels meeting the needs of Brazilian guests," said Arne Sorenson, president and chief operating officer of Marriott International.

Brazil is certainly no stranger to newcomers and tourism. In addition to hosting two major sports events over the next six years, Brazil represents the Americas’ largest growth market, and a prime spot for Marriott to make its mark.

Marriott International currently has four hotels in Brazil: JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo Airport Marriott Hotel, Renaissance Hotel Sao Paulo and the Marriott Executive Apartments Sao Paulo.
