As United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz promised lawmakers a dragging incident like Flight 3411 will never happen again, one Massachusetts city is taking no chances.
Cambridge City Council leaders passed a resolution asking city manager Louis A. DePasquale to ban employees from flying with United for work using public funds where there is an alternative carrier serving the route.
"Clearly, United Airlines does not reflect Cambridge’s values," said Councilor Leland Cheung.
Cheung even said the incident could be ‘construed as a hate crime,’ due to the passenger’s Asian background.
The city manager is still considering the resolution.
In a letter addressed to top ranking members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, United CEO Munoz pledged to ‘regain our customers’ trust with the highest quality of service and deepest level of respect and care.’
"As part of my commitment to ensuring we prevent something like Flight 3411 from happening again, we are finalizing a thorough review of our policies and will be making changes to avoid putting our customers, employees and partners into impossible situations due to policies we control."
