Officials in Malaysia and Australia confirmed a piece of debris found earlier this year in the Indian Ocean is from missing jetliner MH370.
After a thorough inspection of the wing flap section found in Mauritius in May, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said it was from the doomed Malaysian Airlines jet which disappeared in 2014.
Other discoveries have been made off the East Africa coast which were confirmed as MH370 debris, bearing out analysis from drift modelling experts.
"From a part number found on a section of the debris, the piece has been identified as a trailing edge splice strap, incorporated into the rear spar assembly of a Boeing 777 left outboard flap," Liow said in a statement,
"This marks the latest piece of debris that has been examined, analysed and confirmed to have originated from MH370, following the confirmation of the Tanzania debris last month," he said.
Flight MH370, heading to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, disappeared on March 8, 2014.
It was carrying 239 passengers and crew.
This is the third confirmed piece of MH370 debris however a further four items have been analysed and investigators believe they are ‘almost certainly’ from the missing jet.
