Miami celebrating 40 years of Miami Vice
Next month the Miami Vice vibe returns to South Beach and beyond as the iconic 1980s show celebrates 40 years since it aired.
The cop show transformed the image of Miami and Miami Beach, essentially creating a brand that recast the area as cool, hip and exciting.
From Thursday, 12 September through Sunday, 15 September, the Cast & Crew Miami Vice 40th Anniversary Reunion will celebrate its legacy with fans together with some of the people who made it all happen.
Prior to the Opening Night Reception, Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner will present a proclamation declaring Thursday, 16 September 2024 as “Miami Vice Day”.
Many of the cast and crew will attend the ceremony taking place at the Avalon Hotel, 700 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach.
The celebration kicks off with a VIP Opening Night Reception, featuring special guests Edward James Olmos (Lt. Castillo), Michael Madsen (Sally Alvarado), Saundra Santiago (Det. Gina Calabrese), Olivia Brown (Det. Trudy “Big Booty” Joplin), Bobby J. Foxworth (Stunt Coordinator/ Don Johnson Stunt Double), Pepe Serna (Zabado and Oswaldo Guzman) and many more.
There is a full schedule with opportunities to meet the cast and crew, as well as bus tours and walking tours of Miami Vice filming locations, panel discussions, Brunch with the Bad Guys and the Miami Vice Museum.
The museum features is the largest exhibition of Miami Vice memorabilia.
It will include items never seen before on display or exhibited together since the show’s conclusion in 1989.
It includes Don Johnson’s Famous Bren Ten, costumes, behind-the-scenes photos, props, set dressing and much more.
Key highlights are the Miami Vice Alumni Meet & Greet on Friday, 13 September and Saturday, 14 September.
Fans can get autographs and photos with Edward James Olmos, Michael Madsen, Saundra Santiago, Olivia Brown, Bruce McGill, Joaquim De Almeida, Bill Smitrovich, Pepe Serna, and Ismael East Carlo.
Dinner with the Cast & Crew – A gourmet dinner at A Fish Called Avalon is hosted by Edward James Olmos and cast/crew members on Friday, 13 September; and there is another hosted by Saundra Santiago and Olivia Brown and cast/crew members on Saturday, 14 September.
Net proceeds from the events benefit the Police Officers Assistance Trust (POAT), providing assistance to police officers and their families in time of need.
The Cast & Crew Miami Vice 40th Anniversary Reunion is supported by the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Ocean Drive Association, Miami-Dade Police Department and many more organizations and businesses.
