National Geographic Magazine has named Traverse City, Michigan, as one of the best summer trips in an international survey.

Traverse City is a beach town with 180 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 149 inland lakes of 10 acres or more.

National Geographic Magazine praised the area for its quaint port villages, sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, rolling orchards and family-friendly festivals.

It also highlighted the area’s Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes with the 150-foot Dune Climb and the beautiful Lake Michigan beach.

Traverse City features alongside other notable destinations such as St Petersburg, Russia, Barcelona, Spain and Argyll and the Isles in Scotland.
