Midcounties Co-operative rewarded for investment
Midcounties Co-operative has been reaccredited with the CommunityMark for the fifth year running.
CommunityMark, run by Business in the Community and endorsed by the Prince of Wales, recognises those businesses that invest in the community.
The Society gave 44,000 volunteer hours to local communities and raised £267,000 for its charity partner Teenage Cancer Trust, smashing its original target of £200,000, in 2013.
The Society remains part of a leading group of 44 businesses that collectively invested over £728 million in their communities in 2013.
Pete Westall, Group general manager for Co-operative Social Responsibility at Midcounties, said: "We are extremely active within our trading group areas as we understand and recognise the importance of giving back to the local community in ways that will benefit them most, whether this is with our Schools Partnerships or with our focussed project work.
"Being reaccredited with the CommunityMark is testament to the dedication of our colleagues and members in their support of local charities and causes.
"Our stores are situated right at the very heart of community life and we are focused on continuing to invest in and deliver effective and worthwhile support to continue to make a difference locally."
The Midcounties Co-operative will be presented with the CommunityMark at Business in the Community’s National Gala Dinner on July 8.
