Mindful of the spa
Wellness is fine but today’s spas are going beyond that to provide more mindful programs.
Some of these programs are aimed at groups of meeting-goers.
“We’re seeing more of a combination outside the health aspect — artistic kinds of things that are not necessarily just health and wellness related,” Susie Ellis, president of Spafinder, told MeetingsFocus South.
“Everybody knows about spa facials and massages, but we create programming that allows people to learn about themselves,” said Sean Handler, Michigan director of Spa for Boyne Resorts.
One of their innovative programs takes groups out of the meeting space for an artistic venture in watercolor classes. Outdoor locations include the nearby mountains.
“People are looking to enhance their life and take something to incorporate into their lives at home,” said Adrienne Dyson, group sales manager for the Lake Austin Spa.
The spa in Texas features a variety of programs that include “The Healing Sounds of Music.” It promotes Austin’s live music scene and includes a drumming workshop and vocal lessons.
Another arts program that can be tailored for groups is the “Creative Discovery” offering at the Lodge at Woodloch in Pennsylvania. The workshop teaches everything from the basics of watercolor to sketching. The program requires groups of eight to a dozen people for personalized attention.
No artistic talent? Even the least talented end up with some sort of artistic projects, say spa promoters.
