More than 150 ill during cruise ship outbreak

More than 150 reported sick during an illness outbreak on a Princess cruise ship this week.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has now confirmed it as a norovirus outbreak.

The agency reported 104 guests and 49 crew members went down with gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting.

The CDC was notified of the outbreak on March 11, 2026.

Ship crew conducted enhanced cleaning, while isolating sick passengers and crew members.

Star Princess is currently on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise and docks back in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.

The cruise line has informed guests on the next sailing that embarkation will be delayed for further deep cleaning of the ship in readiness for their departure.

Boarding will now commence at 12:30 pm and the ship will depart around 16:00 pm.

“We proactively implemented a thorough disinfection program in collaboration with the CDC. As an extra precaution, the ship will undergo additional disinfection in Fort Lauderdale,” the cruise line said in a notice to guests sailing this weekend.
