Finally! German carrier Lufthansa has received certification for 25 Allegris Business Class seats over 28 on the Boeing 787-9.
The seats were already launched in summer 2024 on the Airbus A350-900. However with a different manufacturer to equip the B787-9, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) didn’t certify them, blocking their commercialization. Each seat in cabin needs indeed to be certified by the authority.
Lufthansa had to fly the aircraft with an almost empty cabin in Business Class as only the first row had so far received its certification -equivalent to only 4 Allegris seats!
Fortunately, it is now a past story. Yesterday, Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Dreamliner with name “Potsdam” flew from Frankfurt to Toronto with 25 certified seats in Business Class.
The remaining eight 787-9s equipped with Allegris are from today in service with approved seats or will take off by Wednesday at the latest. Last-minute bookings for these seats on flights departing from March 18 are therefore available immediately.
New destinations with the Allegris cabin during the summer
In the winter flight schedule, the Boeing 787-9 currently flies from Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Austin, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Toronto.
When the summer schedule begins on March 29, the 787-9 will add routes to Austin, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cape Town, Shanghai, Hyderabad, and Hong Kong. Starting in June, the destinations will then further include New York JFK and Los Angeles, followed by Delhi in July.
When booking, travelers now also have the option to select special Allegris seats in Business Class. Reserving a Classic Seat remains free of charge; this seat offers all the benefits of the new travel class.
Optionally, passengers can also book seats with additional comfort (the Business Class Suite, the Extra Space Seat with extra legroom, the Privacy Seat by the window, and the Extra Long Bed with a 2.20-meter reclining surface) in advance via the seat reservation system for an additional fee.
Since October 9, 2025, Allegris has been flying the Boeing 787-9 out of Frankfurt. Currently, ten brand-new aircraft have arrived in Frankfurt, nine of which are currently in service. In total, Lufthansa Airlines plans to have 29 Boeing 787-9s by the end of 2027.
