Most travelers support extending federal mask mandate
American travelers broadly support the Transportation Security Administration’s decision to extend the federal mask mandate at airports and on planes.
The TSA extended the order which was set to expire on 11 May through 13 September 2021.
According to the latest monthly Traveler Confidence Index developed by Travel Again, it received support from most travelers.
Over three-quarters of leisure travelers (78%) and business travelers (77%) believe it should be extended.
Additionally, 39% of leisure travelers and 37% of business travelers think the mask mandate should be extended until the US. attains a 80% vaccination rate.
"Our survey data showed the initial announcement of the mask mandate received a 91% traveler confidence approval rating, so it comes as no surprise that travelers overwhelmingly support its extension," said Travel Again Co-Founder Mike McCormick.
"This demonstrates the power of instituting consistent policies that travelers understand."
Other key finding from the survey show that the number of vaccinated travelers continues to rise with nearly three-quarters having received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccination which is up significantly from 48% in March.
More than 75% would travel domestically for leisure purposes in the next six months, up from 67% last month and is at the highest level since the start of the pandemic.
The percentage of travelers that are fully ‘ready to travel’ showed improvement on the leisure side, up from 16% to 25% since March.
