NCL confirms US cruise restart in August

Friday, 24 May, 2021 0

Norwegian Cruise Line announced it will resume US cruises in August.

It will start with Alaska week-long cruises on Norwegian Bliss from Seattle planned for 7 August.

The date is still dependent on it getting a Conditional Sailing approval from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

SailSAFE health and safety standards will be in place onboard and all guests and crew must be fully vaccinated.

"This is a moment we have all been waiting for and it would not have been possible without the strong support of the Alaska congressional delegation who worked tirelessly to pass legislation that temporarily waives certain requirements of the Passenger Vessel Services Act," the line said.

A waiver to the PSVA is expected to be passed which would allow cruise ships to travel directly to Alaska without the need to make a mandatory port call in Canada.

Canada has banned large cruise ships until 2022.

NCL said it will reintroduce other ships in a phased-in manner over the coming weeks and months.

Thee Carnival Corp brands – Holland America, Princess and Carnival Cruise Line – plan to restart Alaska cruises in late July.
