NCL passengers injured when Escape hit by high winds
Several passengers on board Norwegian Escape were treated in hospital for injuries sustained when the ship was battered by unexpected high winds.
Strong gusts caused the ship to tilt, sending tables, chairs and other fixtures flying, according to reports. Video footage captured the sound of broken glass and screaming.
However, NCL said the abrupt 115mph gust on Sunday caused no damage other than items strewn around staterooms and public areas. Escape remained ‘fully operational’ and continued with its scheduled itinerary, it said.
An unspecified number of passengers were treated by the ship’s medical staff and at least eight were taken off the ship for treatment in local hospitals when it docked at Port Canaveral in Florida. They were all later released.
Escape continued from Florida to Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau before returning to New York.
