Swaziland, Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal have launched a new self-drive route.
The East 3 Route from Durban will be marketable as a stand-alone brand along similar lines to South Africa’s Garden Route.
The route is expected to attract further private sector investment in tourism infrastructure and create jobs for local people in areas which were previously too remote to benefit from tourism.
The new route will be marketed at international tourism trade shows and via partners such as South African Airways.
Mozambique permanent secretary Fernanda Mourana Matsinha said the success of the route would enable international visitors "to experience the culture and biodiversity of the three countries in a single trip".
