New earthquake hits Japan, but no tsunami to follow

Friday, 8 April 20113 min read

Japan has suffered a second earthquake, although of a lesser scale than the devastating event that shook the country in March which led to a hugely destructive tsunami.
Northeastern Japanese authorities ordered a general evacuation and workers at the beleaguered Fukushima plant were forced to take shelter in a seismic-resistant building after the 7.1 earthquake.
However, a tsunami warning issued after the quake was lifted 90 minutes later and little damage has been reported.
The earthquake occurred at 2332 local time yesterday, 78 miles north of Fukushima, offshore.
