Governor Andrew Cuomo said the economic impact of tourism in New York State has topped $100 billion for the first time last year.
A report by researchers Tourism Economics found the state benefitted by an all-time record 100.1 billion in 2014, fuelled by $62.5 in direct impact on New York’s economy from businesses providing travel related goods and services.
For the fourteenth year running the Empire State welcomed the most international travelers with 9.98 million overseas visitors in 2014 according to data from the US Department of Commerce’s National Travel & Tourism Office.
"A stronger tourism industry in New York means more jobs and more economic activity in local communities. That’s why growing this critically important industry has been a top priority of this administration," said New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
"I encourage New Yorkers and visitors alike to join the ever growing number of people who are vacationing in this state and seeing for themselves all that the Empire State has to offer."
The governor’s office also said employment directly related to tourism has grown 16% since 2011.
