Noosa helps others, and wants help itself
Tourism operators in Noosa on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, which escaped the recent flooding experienced elsewhere in Queensland, have offered room nights to help Brisbane and South East Queensland get back on its feet.
Individuals and businesses have supported the Premier’s Flood Appeal, and more fundraising projects are under way.
Tourism Noosa CEO Steve Cooper said that with the town’s tourism industry starting to hurt from the flow-on impact of the disaster affecting other areas of Queensland, operators are now in recovery mode.
“Interstate and overseas visitors have unfortunately received the message that Queensland is off the holiday shopping list because of the disaster.
“Tourism contributes about $1 billion to the Noosa and regional economy each year and accounts for over 14,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region,†Cooper said.
“We’re encouraging people to visit our website to look for some incentive deals to make that decision to take another break, reward themselves and support our industry.â€
