Traditional seaside resort on the way to becoming the number one European thalasso therapy Island

Germany’s thalasso Island Norderney is one of the seven East Frisian islands on the North Sea coast, in the middle of the Lower Saxony ‘Wattenmeer’ National Park. It is said that the island holds values beyond price. Whoever comes feels the pulse of the tides, feels the elements, and becomes part of the natural world.

Norderney offers majestic nature, inspiring expanses, creative concepts for health, fitness and balance, of open, relaxed coexistence as well as of cultural diversity and a modern way of life.

Everyone who visits the island will feel the island’s magic created over 217 years.

Even older – as old as the sea – is thalasso therapy, which uses smells and sounds, surf, water, salt, minerals, vitamins, sand and silt. On the beach you will immediately feel the healing powers of the sea. Five of the 10 designated thalasso trails of the island include the beach. Five shorter walks lead through the city, along the promenade and the sights. The starting point of these five paths is Norderney’s bath house, the home of thalasso.

The power of the sea is embodied in Norderney’s Bath House. Here, a hundred shades of blue, mystical iridescence, golden amber, and solid granite, reflects the essence of Norderney and its elements.

The thalassotherapy at Bath House is based on three main constituent parts. The first is the element of seawater in all its diversity – from refreshing to hot, from gently dripping to billowing and rushing, as a waterfall, trickle, mist or salt bath with optimum salt as in the Dead Sea. The second level celebrates the element of fire – with saunas and steam baths, a roof sauna, a wash bath with hot stones as well as seawater irrigation. The third involves cleansing, sleep and rest, through warmth and an inviting lounge area with an open fire.

Guests can also book individual treatments such as massages, seawater baths, silt packs in hammocks and cosmetics complement and try Aquafitness and Aquajogging.

Meanwhile, the Family Thalassobad, which opened in 2012, is child-friendly concept that goes far beyond the classic splashing and bathing experience with its warm, sea water surfing pool.

In the  summertime in Norderney visitors can enjoy Thalasso, beaches, children’s entertainment, cycling, Filmfest Emden-Norderney, and open air events such as Summertime @ NORDERNEY, Norderney Classic, wine Festival, Holi Beach, Babalumba Silent and the Norderney ISLANDMAN Triathlon

In the autumn, Thalasso, long walks on the beach, the island part of Norderney, theatre, cabaret, summer-academy and conferences.

And in the winter: Thalasso, winter magic-market, Blue Night Boogie, New Year party, long walks on the beach, bathing on New Year’s Day, conferences.

The North Sea coast owes its reputation as a body stimulus to its frequent wind, which is constantly stronger than the mainland, and to the frequent changes of weather which cause rapidly changing wind directions. On average, wind strength is more than four times as strong as in the interior of Germany.

The wind creates waves, enriches the air above the water, and on the shore, where the waves foam, and the surf sets the spray in motion, like an aerosol. The moving air simply picks up and carries the contents of the sea. Compared to the Baltic Sea, the North Sea has a three times higher salt content, which effectively cleans and stimulates the body’s airways and facilitates breathing.
