Norse Atlantic completes historic nonstop charter flight to Australia

Norse Atlantic Airways has successfully completed a landmark charter flight down under.

The millstone Oslo to Darwin flight is the first ever nonstop from Norway to Australia.

It was chartered by Albastar S.A. and brokered by Aircontact, Scandinavia’s largest air broker firm.

The flight covered 14,730 kilometres with a flight time of 16.5 hours, showcasing the long-range performance of the Boeing 787-900.

“The Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner is the perfect aircraft for ultra long distance flying and we are proud to demonstrate its capabilities on this historic route,” said Mette Birkedahl, Director Charter and ACMI Norse Atlantic Airways.

The Boeing 787-900 has a range of up to 15,400 kilometres.

It also emits about 25% lower CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.

Last year Norse made headlines for being the first airline to land a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on a ‘blue ice runway’ at Troll Airfield Antarctica, on behalf of the Norwegian Polar Institute.
