Northland tempts Aussies with short breaks
New Zealand’s Northland tourism is embarking on a major effort to persuade Australians to take short-break holidays in the region.
The campaign kicks off this weekend with a 15 second television commercial in the prime markets of New South Wales and Victoria.
TV adverts will air directly after the new Tourism New Zealand “100% Pure You†advertisements.
The $300,000 campaign has been funded by a three-way partnership between Northland, Tourism New Zealand and Australian based trade partners.
Partnering with Australian travel wholesaler Kirra Holidays and the Jetset Travelworld retail chain, Kirra is offering a series of 18 Northland travel packages that will be sold through the Australian Jetset Travelworld retail chain.
The offer also includes an Aussie Welcome Card with benefits and discounts on selected Northland activities within the travel period.
Northland international marketing manager Nineke Metz said Australians tended to travel to New Zealand for a two-week holiday but stayed only two nights in Northland.
“With these packages we are saying, take a short break and relax for four or five nights in Northland, and come back to New Zealand some other time.â€
