Norwegian Cruise Line’s Bahamas private island closing for major upgrades

Norwegian Cruise Line will close its private island Great Stirrup Cay for several weeks from today to start the extensive refurbishment planned for the 250-acre island.
It will be temporarily closed from August 25 to October 20 while work takes place.
In the meantime the Norwegian Sky will instead call at Nassau and Grand Bahama.

The new Lagoon Retreat will feature a spa and 22 villas, and the island will also get enhanced dining options.
Norwegian said it will it will start welcoming guests to the new amenities by January 2017.
Norwegian was the first cruise line to own a private island in the Bahamas when purchased Great Stirrup Cay in 1977
