Norwegian Epic crashes into Puerto Rico pier
The Norwegian Epic has had an eventful sailing these past few days.
After leaving Port Canaveral at the weekend the ship experienced mechanical issues forcing it to skip port calls in Tortola and St Thomas in the Virgin Islands.
Instead it was rerouted to Puerto Rico but then crashed into the pier on arrival.
In a tweet the cruise line blamed ‘prevailing winds’ for the collision which damaged two mooring points.
It said there were no injuries and local authorities are working to assess the damage.
Norwegian made the decision to divert to San Juan to assess the earlier propulsion problems and it is unclear whether it will be able to resume sailing.
A call at private island Great Stirrup Cay is scheduled for Friday before returning to Port Canaveral.
According to tweets posted by guests, the line has offered a 50% credit for a future cruise.
