Norwich airport expects 33% rise in passengers
Passengers using Norwich airport are expected to exceed a record 600,000 this year.
The forecast figure will represent a 33% rise over 2004 and comes after a 47% increase in passenger throughput last month against October last year.
The regional airport has started a £4 million extension to its terminal, including an expanded departures lounge and arrivals hall. The expanded facilities will allow the airport to handle up to two million passengers a year.
More than 20 airlines and operators will be showcasing destinations available from Norwich at a consumer holiday show being held at the airport on November 19-20.
Head of marketing services Louise Wilkinson said: “The boom in October was largely due to the launch of Flybe Malaga and Alicante routes which are performing extremelyt well.
“Chambery and Geneva flights commence in December and these are expected to bring a further boost to traffic.
“New routes for 2006 are confirmed to include Faro, Guernsey and Murcia with operators offering packages to Crete and Bulgaria for the first time from Norwich in 2006.”
