Dame Helen Mirren, ably assisted by a crack team of Royal Marines, will formally name new cruise ship Ventura today.

The 3,600-passenger P&O Cruises vessel will host 1,500 guests for the naming cremony in Southampton.

Dame Helen will signal for the Marine Commandos to abseil off the bridge of the £300 million ship to smash champagne against the side.

Celebrities and industry geuest will be among those invited to the official naming followed by dinner on board.

Ventura, which has been in port for two weeks of trade and consumer showcase events, will then sail on its maiden voyage to the Mediterranean on Friday.
