Nova Scotia easing travel restrictions as part of Atlantic Canada bubble
Nova Scotia’s Halifax International Airport recently implementing new protocols as provinces in Atlantic Canada prepare to ease some travel restrictions.
New measures will ensure health and safety of passengers, visitors and employees at the airport.
Nova Scotia has no active Covid-19 cases with the last new case discovered on June 9.
It comes as the Council of Atlantic Premiers announced the relaxation of travel restrictions across Atlantic Canada from July 3.
With Covid-19 numbers remaining low in each province, travel between Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador can begin later this week for residents without the need to self-isolate.
“Nova Scotians and Atlantic Canadians have worked hard to flatten the curve and we’re now in a place where we can ease restrictions within our region. This will allow families to travel and vacation this summer, boosting our tourism and business sectors,” said Premier Stephen McNeil.
The gateway to Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia offers some 13,300 km of coastline with a wealth of travel experiences including the Cabot Trail, one of the world’s most scenic drives.
Exploring Nova Scotia’s wine country is also a popular experience.
Public health directives of each province will remain in force, and each province has its own procedures to monitor travelers.
Other Canadian visitors coming to the Maritime provinces may travel within the Maritime region if they have self-isolated for 14 days.
“The position we find ourselves in today, with no new cases of Covid-19 for 15 days, is because Nova Scotians worked together and made sacrifices to slow the spread,” said Dr. Robert Strang, chief medical officer of health for Nova Scotia.
Strang is urging all residents and regional visitors to maintain social distancing, wash hands, and follow gathering limits.
To date Nova Scotia has recorded 1,061 positive Covid-19 cases, and 63 deaths but has no active cases.
