NTSB says Dreamliner answers are ‘weeks away’
As Boeing stands by and waits for FAA approval to test fly its grounded Dreamliner, Deborah Hersman who helms the National Transportation Safety Board says it may take "weeks" to source the issue that sparked and ignited the lithium-ion batteries onboard the 787 on multiple flights in January.
The NTSB chairman, who is reported to be a possible candidate for Ray LaHood’s job at the DOT, told reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast that there may be some information coming on Thursday but that answers on what happened and what needs to change are further away.
She also said that she didn’t believe that the batteries were categorically unsafe but that the issue is "to make sure you’ve done the right risk assessment, that you understand what the failure modes are and that you’ve mitigated any potential risks."
