NY Hilton opens ice-cold hot spot: The Minus5 IceBar

Tuesday, 09 Jul, 2013 0

In a Manhattan heat wave, the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue this weekend opened a timely ice-cold hot spot: the Minus5 Ice Bar, where everything from the walls to the chairs is made entirely of ice.

For a $20 admission fee guests can sit in chairs made of ice and sip drinks from glasses made of the frozen stuff, too. Gloves and parkas are free, to keep fingers and bottoms from freezing,

The bar, which opened on Saturday, is kept at a cool 23 degrees Fahrenheit, or minus-5 degrees Celsius, from where it gets its name.

The timing was perfect, as midtown temperatures topped 90 degrees.

This is the third Minus5 bars in the United States; the other two are in Las Vegas.

Overall, it’s "an experience that will chill you to your bones!" says the company’s website.

For corporate groups, discounts and reservations are available, along with an ice carver who can hew your logos into the walls.
