NZ again wins top award in The Guardian/Observer Travel Awards
New Zealand has been voted favourite long-haul travel destination for the third year running in The Guardian/The Observer Travel Awards 2002.
15,500 readers responded to questions published in the Guardian’s Travel and the Observer’s Escape sections. New Zealand gained a top score of 95.59%, closely followed by Nepal (94.95%) and Costa Rica (94.70%).
Commenting on the award, Barry Eddington, Tourism New Zealand’s regional manager for UK/Europe, said: “This success is also due to the unbeatable appeal of our 100% Pure New Zealand marketing campaign, which has received an additional boost in recent months thanks to the success of the film The Lord of the Rings. We are also enjoying increasingly high satisfaction levels from UK visitors, which is ensuring a growing trend for return visits.”
Visitor arrival figures to New Zealand from the UK reached record levels in March this year – up 45.3 per cent for the month at 28, 872, compared to the same period last year.
