Onboard brawl forces cruise ship to make unscheduled stop

Friday, 16 Feb, 2018 0

A Carnival cruise liner was forced to make an unscheduled stop at a port in Australia’s New South Wales following an onboard brawl between two rival gangs.

Police are believed to have removed about 15 troublemakers from the Carnival Legend at Eden, and the ship is expected to continue to its home port of Melbourne tomorrow.

Footage from onboard the 10-day South Pacific cruise, sent to Australian broadcaster 3AW, shows the ship’s security staff trying to break up a fight between both male and female passengers. Others alleged the incident was one of multiple brawls onboard the ships involving around 30 people, some of whom made threats of stabbing and to throw people overboard.

Some passengers were allegedly too afraid to leave their cabins having witnessed the fights which took place in public areas, including around the pool in front of families.

Carnival Cruise Lines told Daily Mail Australia: "The vast majority of the guests on board Carnival Legend are enjoying their 10-day cruise holiday to the South Pacific.

"The ship’s highly trained security staff have engaged with a small group of disruptive guests and ensured that they are fully aware of and are compliant with our zero tolerance policy. This strong approach is in line with our commitment to safety as the number one priority."
