More than a quarter of UK travellers with serious medical conditions admit to lying about their health to their insurance company.
Research by Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance reveals that 26% of holidaymakers who have gone abroad in the last two years have done so with a serious and or long term medical condition.
Of these, 15% admitted they had not told their insurer about their condition and 11% said they only partially disclosed the information.
Furthermore, 11% of people admitted to going abroad without any insurance at all.
The average medical claim while abroad is over £1,088, with Spain, Spain, Greece and the US recording the highest number of medical claims.
