Passenger traffic tops one million for first time since March
The airline industry reached a welcome milestone Sunday with more than one million travelers passing through TSA security checkpoints at airports.
The Transportation Security Administration said it screened 1.03 million people, which is the most since 16 March.
It is still 60% lower than the corresponding day last year when 2.6 million people travelled by air.
Still, it is a significant improvement from the record low of less than 100,000 in April.
The news sparked a mini rally on airline stocks.
Large carriers including Delta and United Airlines, which recently posted large losses again, have cited strong booking trends for the months ahead, especially around the Thanksgiving and New Year holidays.
