Pearl Mist to sail the Great Lakes
Who needs an ocean when you have the Great Lakes?
Four cruise companies have announced plans to run Great Lakes cruises on small ships in 2014, but the buzz is coming from the newest, Pearl Seas Cruises, a sister company to American Cruise Lines.
After a four-year delay, Peal Seas finally has begun taking orders for three Great Lakes cruises and one into the Canadian Maritimes aboard the brand new Pearl Mist.
The 335-foot, 210-passenger cruise ship will set sail on her maiden cruise from on June 28, 2014, from Baltimore, for an 11-night sailing to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Prices range from $5,000 to $9,000 for itineraries of 10 to 14 days, with 9 to 12 ports of call.
Pearl Seas was established in 2006 specifically for international travel, and Irving Shipbuilding was awarded the contract to build the Pearl Mist.
But in 2009, when the shipyard announced the ship was finished, Pearl Seas declared her not seaworthy and refused to accept delivery.
The legal battles finally settled, Pearl Seas plans 17 cruises up and down the Atlantic coast for the 2014 season, including one heading south from Baltimore to Nassau, Bahamas.
The Pearl Mist has 100 staterooms ranging in size from 302 to 580 square feet, all with private balconies.
Pearl Seas will join the Great Lakes Cruise Co., Blount Small Ship Adventures, St. Lawrence Cruise Line and USA River Cruises on the lakes; they all offer itineraries for 2014, at prices ranging from about $3,000 to $12,000.
