UK tourism minister John Penrose is to sit on the panel at World Travel Market’s UNTWO Ministers’ Summit.
The summit will be attended by 150 ministers and senior aides who will agree a statement of intent for the path of future tourism over the next 12 months.
The panel will discuss mainstreaming tourism in the political and economic agendas, climate change and developing tourism competitively.
It is expected that Penrose will be asked about his government’s plans on APD, which will have gone up for the second year running by the time WTM comes around.
This year’s budget was unclear about the mechanisms behind replacing APD with a per plane tax .
World Travel Market Chairman Fiona Jeffery said: “I am delighted John Penrose will be taking part in this year’s UNWTO Ministers’ Summit at World Travel Market. His input and insight in the role the UK will play in the future of the global travel and tourism industry will be invaluable.”
