Pilot pulls out gun in cockpit, threatens to shoot captain
A pilot has been indicted for allegedly threatening to shoot his colleague in the cockpit.
First officer Jonathan J. Dunn was working a Delta Air Lines flight.
Th captain decided to divert the plane due to a medical issue with a passenger.
Dunn told the captain not to divert or risk being shot.
Dunn was legally carrying the firearm in the cockpit under the TSA’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program.
He has since been removed from the program.
He is facing charges of interfering with the crew of a commercial flight.
The incident took place a year ago.
Delta said he is no longer employed at the airline.
“After a disagreement about a diversion, Dunn told the captain they would be shot multiple times if the captain diverted the flight,” the FBI said.
Dunn ‘did assault and intimidate a crew member, thereby interfering with the performance of their duties and did use a dangerous weapon in assaulting and intimidating the crew member.”
The DOT’s Office of the Inspector General is conducting the investigation along with the FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration.
