PM set to relax Covid rules
Boris Johnson is expected to announce a relaxing of Plan B restrictions in England.
A statement to MPs is expected in the Commons this afternoon.
There is expected to be a ‘substantial reduction’ says Health Secretary Sajid Javid as officials cite a ‘downward spiral’ of Omicron.
Vaccinated travellers may soon be able to travel back without any Covid test required at all.
Other requirements set to go include vaccine passes for nightclubs and large events, and work from home guidance.
Face masks may stay mandatory for stores and on publictransport.
Unvaccinated travellers would still need to take arrival tests.
New positive Covid cases have decreased by over 40% in a week.
"Due to these pharmaceutical defences and the likelihood that we have already reached the peak of the case numbers of hospitalisations, I am cautiously optimistic that we will be able to substantially reduce restrictions next week,"Javid said.
Changes are expected to take effect before the end of January before the half-tern holidays.
