P&O Cruises has confirmed the sale of its smallest and oldest ship, Artemis.
The new owner is to charter the ship to German travel company Phoenix Reisen.
The UK line had admitted receiving an approach for the 1,200-passenger, child-free vessel earlier this month (see previous TravelMole story).
The sale of the 25-year-old ship is to be completed next month for an undisclosed sum.
But P&O Cruises will continue to operate all published cruises by Artemis until April 12, 2011.
A company statement said: “P&O Cruises can confirm that it has signed contracts for the sale of its 45,000 ton ship Artemis to MS Artania Shipping, for an undisclosed sum.
“The sale will be completed on 6 October 2009 but P&O Cruises will continue to operate Artemis and her series of cruises as published until 12 April 2011."
The P&O Cruises’ fleet consists of six ships, rising to seven next April with the arrival of new-build Azura.
Capacity will then reduce the following year when Artemis departs.
