P&O takes delivery of new ship
P&O Cruises has taken delivery of £200 million new ship Arcadia prior to its maiden voyage next month.
The 1,952-passenger ship, the first to be purpose built by P&O for the UK cruise market, is to sail from the Fincantierei ship yard in Venice to its home port of Southampton tomorrow to arrive on April 6.
Arcadia is to be named by Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes on April 12 before departing on its first cruise to the Mediterranean two days later.
P&O Cruises managing director David Dingle said: “Arcadia’s stylish and contemporary design places her at the forefront of modern cruising and strong advance bookings for her maiden season show that she has already become a firm favourite with British holidaymakers.”
The ship will be child free and feature 12 bars, six restaurants, a spa and thermal suit and a three-tier theatre.
The vessel had originally been earmarked for P&O sister company Cunard under the Carnival Corporation umbrella.
