Popcorn and movies for the Sun Princess
SYDNEY – The fitting of the giant 7-metre wide and 4-metre high LED movie screen is a key feature of a multi-million dollar refurbishment of Sun Princess now underway in Brisbane’s Forgacs Cairncross dockyard.
The 77,000-tonne superliner Sun Princess sailed into the Morningside shipyard last Friday for the two-week scheduled dry dock, which will also feature a refitting of the superliner’s spa, the installation of new carpet and upholstery, and the addition of shipwide wi-fi connectivity.
The enhanced Sun Princess also boasts Princess Cruises’ Sanctuary – a child-free retreat on the ship’s top deck.
Princess Cruises’ president Alan Buckelew said Movies Under the Stars and the Sanctuary were both very popular with passengers.
“Australia’s warmer climate means passengers enjoy a lot of time on deck, so Movies Under the Stars and the Sanctuary are ideal additions to our ships Down Under."
The debut of Movies Under the Stars will enable Sun Princess passengers to watch the latest blockbusters, major sporting events and music concerts while they relax by the poolside – day or night.
Passengers can recline on padded pool deck chairs with blankets and indulge in complimentary popcorn as well as a variety of special movie-themed cocktails and nibbles.
Sun Princess will depart on its next cruise on April 29, sailing from Brisbane to Fremantle. The superliner will move to Brisbane in late 2011 for its first ever season of cruises from the Queensland capital.
