Premier Inn claims to have outdone rivals
Premier Inn claims to have outstripped competitors in the budget and mid-market hotel sector during the past 11 weeks when it saw an 14% increase in sales.
Parent Whitbread said Premier Inn increased total room nights sold by 11.2% to 13 million during its fourth quarter.
In the year to date, Premier Inn like for like revenue per available room grew 1.6%, with occupancy up 1.1% points to 77.4%. Rates were up by 0.1%, but in the final quarter they fell 5.5%.
The company said that in the UK regions, its revenue per available room was down 0.3% in the fourth quarter, but this compared to a 0.9% drop for the mid-scale and economy sector.
In London, where Premier Inn is aiming to become the largest budget accommodation provider, its revenue per available room was up by 2.2% compared with a 5% decline in the mid-scale and economy sector.
During the year, the hotel chain has increased its room capacity in the capital by 22%.
