Public inquiry into Stansted expansion starts today
The public inquiry into BAA’s plans to expand Stansted Airport is due to begin today.
The local Uttlesford District Council rejected the airport operator’s plans so the application has gone to a public inquiry.
BAA aims to increase air traffic movements from the airport from 241,000 to 264,000 a year and passenger numbers from 25 million to 35 million a year.
The plans are opposed by campaign group, Stop Stansted Expansion, who believe they would have an impact on the local environment, the national economy and climate change.
But BAA argues the expansion would bring huge social and economic benefits.
