Public warned over ‘overpriced’ travel policies
UK holidaymakers could save over one-third in premiums if they shopped around for the best insurance cover – and avoided agents and operators altogether – according to online broker InsureandGo.
The company claims UK passengers spend £670 million a year on travel insurance, but could save up to £275 million by comparing prices.
It claims the average annual trip premium is now £103.19 for Europe, £133.84 for worldwide cover and £141.28 for cover that includes travel to the US.
However, the 25% most competitive insurers – a list which unsurprisingly includes InsureandGo – bring the average prices down to £61.12, £78.48 and £79.34 respectively.
InsureandGo director Perry Wilson said: “One way of avoiding paying over the odds for travel insurance is not to purchase cover from travel agents and tour operators as our research shows they can be double the price of the most competitive insurers.”
