A rat pack discovered on board a Qantas jet forced the cancellation of the flight.
Flight attendants found five rats in the cabin of a Boeing 767 aircraft due to leave Sydney on Tuesday afternoon during a safety and security inspection.
The rodents were found in emergency medical equipment carried on the aircraft, just 10 minutes before passengers were due to board.
AAP reported that the airline subsequently grounded the Boeing 767 at a Sydney Airport hangar while staff killed the rats and searched the cabin to ensure no more were on board.
Engineers later inspected the aircraft to determine whether any damage had been caused to wiring and aircraft systems.
"We still don’t know how they got on board but it is obviously not a common occurrence," a Qantas spokesman said.
