Qantas Group slashes international capacity by 90 percent
Qantas and low cost subsidiary Jetstar are taking a hatchet to their remaining international flight schedules.
From the end of March total group capacity on international routes will be cut by about 90% until at least the end of May 2020.
The cuts will be phased in.
Domestic capacity will drop by about 60%, highlighting a rapid decline in travel demand.
It represents the grounding of about 150 planes, including almost all of Qantas’ wide body fleet.
The airlines will publish details of the cuts on a route-by-route basis in the next few days.
Qantas says its fleet of cargo planes will operate as normal.
The airline recently announced more flexible flight waivers allowing customers to postpone their travel and receive a credit to be used at a later date.
