Qantas launching Launceston flights from Sydney
With the easing of border restrictions between New South Wales and Tasmania coming, Qantas will launch a new route connecting Sydney and Launceston.
It begins 4 December 2020, with three flights a week on Boeing 717 aircraft.
A week after launch, it will increase seasonally to four a week until 1 February 2021.
It is the first time since 2004 Qantas has flown the Launceston-Sydney route.
Subject to demand, it may increase capacity further.
It follows other new routes to Tasmania recently announced with Brisbane-Hobart on Qantas and Gold Coast-Hobart with Jetstar.
"We know there is huge pent-up demand for domestic travel with Australians looking for new destinations to explore," said Qantas Domestic and International CEO Andrew David.
"We’ll keep a close eye on demand and if it proves successful we will look to extend the service."
Qantas is also restarting Hobart to Sydney flights from 6 November 2020.
