Qantas to co-locate at Heathrow Terminal 3

Saturday, 16 Mar, 2006 0

Qantas announced today that it would join other oneworld alliance airlines in co-locating at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 in 2008.

The Chief Executive Officer of Qantas, Mr Geoff Dixon, said the move would follow the opening of Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 in March 2008.

“Qantas has operated from Heathrow’s Terminal 4 for many years,” Mr Dixon said.

“The opening of Terminal 5 will provide Qantas, as well as its oneworld partners, with the opportunity to locate their operations in what will be a fully upgraded and state-of-the-art Terminal 3.”

All of Qantas’ London services will operate to and from Terminal 3. The airline currently  operates 28 Boeing 747-400 services each week from Australia to Heathrow.

British Airways services to and from Australia via Singapore and Bangkok covered by the Qantas/British Airways Joint Services Agreement (JSA) will also operate from Terminal 3.

“Terminal 3 will provide improved transport links into central London, easier connections to British Airways’ regional and European services operating from Terminal 5 and, with all oneworld carriers located in Terminal 3, simpler transfers between Qantas services and those operated by our alliance partners,” Mr Dixon said.

“We are now working closely with Heathrow operator BAA on the relocation to ensure Qantas and oneworld customers have access to world class terminal facilities from 2008.”

In addition to Qantas, oneworld carriers American Airlines, Aer Lingus, British Airways (see above), Cathay Pacific, Finnair and Iberia will co-locate in Terminal 3, along with alliance members-elect JAL, Royal Jordanian and Malev.

Between them, the airlines account for around 35 million passengers passing through the terminal each year – more than 50 per cent of Heathrow’s passenger traffic.
