Qatar Airways extends suspensions across 13 routes in winter

In June, Qatar Airways claimed to have reinstated 85% of its schedule following the disruptions caused by the Gulf War. In the meantime, this percentage will only increase slightly with the coming winter destination.

Qatar Airways is indeed continuing to scale back its network for the Northern Winter 2026/27 season, extending the suspension of 13 destinations while reducing its overall flight schedule from Doha by approximately 7%.

The latest schedule filing covering the period from September 16, 2026, through March 27, 2027, confirms that a number of previously suspended routes will remain off the airline’s network throughout the winter season.

The affected destinations include Gassim, Hamburg, Malta, Neom Bay, Sofia, Taif, Tabuk, Venice Marco Polo and Yanbu, along with the multi-stop Doha–Djibouti–Mogadishu service. The Doha–Abuja–Kano route also remains partially suspended, with flights continuing to Abuja while service onward to Kano stays canceled.

Flights to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen have also been removed from the schedule for the entire winter season. The withdrawal means Qatar Airways currently has no future scheduled operations using its Airbus A321neo fleet, which had been planned for the Turkish route.

Several destinations are now tentatively expected to return for the next summer season, starting March 28, 2027. These include Gassim, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, Malta, Neom Bay, Tabuk, Taif and Yanbu. However, Qatar Airways has indicated that these planned resumptions remain provisional and are subject to further schedule revisions.

Despite the network reductions elsewhere, the airline continues to list services to several Iranian destinations from September 16 onward, including Mashhad, Shiraz and Tehran Imam Khomeini, indicating those routes remain part of its current operational plans.

The revised winter schedule also reflects a notable reduction in overall flying. Based on the latest timetable, Qatar Airways has lowered planned one-way departures from Doha to 38,651 flights for the season, down from 41,750 departures shown in mid-June. The reduction of roughly 3,100 flights represents an overall capacity cut of around 7%.
