Rayani Air still hopeful of flying again
Despite being grounded for three months and having its air operators permit revoked, Malaysia’s first Shariah-compliant airline Rayani Air still hopes to fly again.
The Malaysian Aviation Commission revoked its licence this week but owner Ravi Alagendrran hopes authorities will give it a ‘second chance.’
Ravi said the airline is in talks with a new investor to put in sufficient funding to restart operations.
"The revocations came at the peak of our negotiations with investors for the acquisition of equity in Rayani Air, after realising that the present owners and their management are no longer fit to revive the airline," Ravi said in a statement.
He said the new potential investors have a ‘qualified and strong management team.’
The Aviation Commission said Rayani is still liable for refunds to customers with bookings who have been waiting since the airline suspended operations in April.
"Customers who have purchased tickets with Rayani Air but were not able go on their journey may lodge a complaint with the company and seek a refund. In the event consumers are not able to obtain their refunds, consumers can file a civil suit for those refunds," it said.
